Birmingham Longevity
The Bredesen Protocol ReCODE 2.0™ and PreCODE™Cognitive Center
ReCODE® and PreCODE® are personalized, science-based programs designed to assess cognitive health, identify potential risk factors, and create a proactive plan to support long-term brain health and cognitive performance.
Dementia and Alzheimer's can be treated
Birmingham Longevity is proud to now offer Dr. Dale Bredesen’s ReCODE and PreCODE programs, a personalized approach to protecting and optimizing cognitive health. Built on decades of research into the factors associated with cognitive decline, these programs take a comprehensive look at areas such as metabolic health, inflammation, hormones, nutrition, genetics, sleep, and lifestyle to identify opportunities for intervention.
ReCODE is designed for individuals experiencing cognitive decline, while PreCODE focuses on prevention and long-term brain health. This approach has shown promising results in published clinical studies, including improvements in cognitive measures among some participants with early cognitive impairment.
Dementia pathology can start in your 20s
In the United States, an estimated 7.4 million adults age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia—about 1 in 9 seniors—and Alzheimer’s accounts for an estimated 60–70% of dementia cases worldwide.

A New Era in Cognitive Health.
The results behind Dr. Dale Bredesen’s approach to cognitive decline are extremely promising. In an early clinical trial, 84% of participants showed improvement on cognitive assessments, with improvements reported in areas including memory, executive function, and overall cognition.
Larger studies of the ReCODE approach have also demonstrated significant cognitive improvements in certain patient groups, alongside improvements in important metabolic risk factors. Most recently, a randomized controlled trial reported statistically significant improvements in memory, executive function, processing speed, and overall cognition with the precision-medicine approach—offering exciting new possibilities for individuals seeking a proactive, personalized approach to cognitive health.
The 36 Factors
Dr. Dale Bredesen’s research identified more than 36 potential factors that may contribute to cognitive decline, ranging from insulin resistance and inflammation to nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, poor sleep, toxins, infections, and genetics.
Rather than focusing on a single cause, the ReCODE approach evaluates these potential contributors to uncover each patient’s unique risk profile and develop a highly personalized plan designed to optimize brain health and address as many contributing factors as possible.
In Depth Testing and Analysis
We evaluate many factors such as:
Metabolic health, insulin resistance, glucose regulation, inflammation, hormonal balance, nutrient deficiencies, sleep quality, exercise, stress, nutrition, environmental toxin exposure, infections, genetics including APOE status, lifestyle factors, cardiovascular health, and other potential contributors to cognitive decline.
At Birmingham Longevity, we go beyond conventional care by offering an extensive range of advanced, personalized treatment options tailored to your unique needs. Our comprehensive approach is designed to address the many factors influencing your health, with one goal in mind: helping you feel healthier, stronger, more vibrant, and empowered to get back to enjoying the life you love.
Our Services and Program
-
Our cognitive health program begins with a comprehensive evaluation designed to build a detailed picture of your current health and potential risk factors for cognitive decline. This includes advanced laboratory testing, genetic analysis, physician consultations, and targeted imaging and scans to evaluate key areas that may influence brain health. By bringing these findings together, our medical team can identify potential contributors to cognitive decline and develop a personalized strategy focused on protecting and optimizing long-term cognitive health.
-
Our patients receive hours of dedicated, one-on-one care throughout the year—giving our medical team the time to truly understand your health, track meaningful changes, and continually refine your plan. Through comprehensive evaluations, physician consultations, ongoing testing, performance assessments, and follow-up visits, we go far beyond the traditional healthcare model to provide proactive, highly personalized care throughout your entire health journey.
-
Rather than relying on a single treatment, your physician may utilize a wide range of personalized therapies and interventions based on the factors identified through your evaluation. Your plan may address areas such as metabolic health, nutrition, hormone optimization, inflammation, sleep, exercise, nutrient deficiencies, stress, and other clinically relevant contributors to cognitive health. As your results and needs evolve, your physician can continually refine your plan with the goal of supporting cognitive function and long-term brain health.
-
Our approach is results-oriented and driven by measurable progress. We don’t simply make recommendations and hope for improvement—we continually evaluate your cognitive performance, biomarkers, metabolic health, physical health, and other key measures throughout the program. By tracking objective data over time, our physicians can see what is working, identify where adjustments are needed, and continually refine your personalized plan with the goal of achieving meaningful, measurable improvements in your overall health and cognitive function.
Dale Bredesen, MD
Founder of Apollo Health and the ReCODE Protocol
An internationally recognized expert in the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, Dr. Dale Bredesen’s career has been guided by a simple idea: that Alzheimer’s as we know it is not just preventable, but reversible. Dr. Bredesen’s dedicated pursuit of the science that makes this a reality has placed him at the vanguard of neurological research and led to the discoveries that today underlie the ReCODE Protocol.
ReCODE Protocol
For Patients Experiencing Cognitive Decline
ReCODE® is designed for individuals experiencing memory changes, cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment, or other concerns related to brain health. The goal is to look beyond symptoms and investigate the multiple biological, metabolic, genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors that may be contributing to cognitive dysfunction.
What We Evaluate
We take a broad look at the systems that influence brain health, including cognitive performance, metabolic health, insulin resistance and glucose regulation, cardiovascular risk, inflammation, thyroid function, hormones, nutrient status, genetics, sleep, lifestyle, body composition, toxin exposure, and other clinically relevant contributors.
PreCODE Protocol
For Patients Focused on Prevention
PreCODE is designed for individuals who are currently cognitively healthy but want a deeper understanding of their future cognitive risk and overall brain health.
Rather than waiting for symptoms to appear, PreCODE allows our team to establish a comprehensive baseline, identify areas that may warrant attention, and build a proactive strategy aimed at supporting long-term cognitive function.
What We Evaluate
PreCODE examines many of the same systems involved in cognitive aging, including genetic risk, cardiovascular health, metabolic function, inflammation, hormones, nutrient status, sleep, lifestyle, physical health, and baseline cognitive performance.
