Dr. Jerry L. Kitchens, Jr., MD

Founder & Medical Director

Born and raised in Birmingham, Dr. Jerry Kitchens built his medical career on a simple principle: patients deserve more from their healthcare. After attending Birmingham-Southern College and acquiring his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, he trained in surgery at the University of Louisville, where he met his wife, a pediatric nurse.

For 23 years, Dr. Kitchens served the Birmingham community as a general surgeon before osteoarthritis forced him out of the operating room. When his father was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he turned frustration into purpose, pursuing advanced study in functional and preventative medicine. After completing the Institute for Functional Medicine training program in 2024, he founded Homewood Health and Wellness and now leads Birmingham Longevity Clinic.

Today, Dr. Kitchens applies decades of surgical precision to preventative medicine. His mission: give patients the data, insight, and partnership they need to stay ahead of disease and continue doing what they love for decades to come.

Dr. Kristi Brunsvold, MD

physician and Director of womens health

Dr. Brunsvold graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University and cum laude from the UAB School of Medicine.  While in her mid 40s, she and her teenage daughter both developed significant issues with fatigue. When their conventional medical work ups were normal, Dr. Brunsvold went on a quest for answers. She discovered functional medicine which looks for the root causes of symptoms and diseases by focusing on lifestyle, environment, and genetic factors, as well as emotional and spiritual contributors to disease.

After addressing her thyroid and adrenal issues with a functional approach, Dr. Brunsvold was faced with even more questions about how to navigate perimenopause and menopause. She worked locally with Dr. James McMinn and Dr. Ashley Tamucci using bioidentical hormone replacement, and she continues her hormone education through A4M and The Menopause Society.

Dr. Brunsvold is now an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and is passionate about helping other patients find answers. She believes in a patient-centered, personalized approach to medicine where patients are educated to make informed decisions regarding their overall health and wellness.

Drew Whitehead, PT, DPT

Director of Physical performance

Drew built his career around a simple belief: people should feel strong, capable, and confident in their bodies at every stage of life. After attending Auburn University and earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Samford University, he began working with individuals across a wide range of ages and activity levels, helping them move better and return to the activities they enjoy.

Alongside his clinical training, Drew has over 10 years of experience in strength and conditioning, which shapes his ability to go beyond traditional rehab. Rather than stopping at pain relief, his approach focuses on building strength, improving endurance, and reducing long-term injury risk. His work with adults from all walks of life, fitness enthusiasts, and health-conscious individuals has shaped a performance-driven philosophy centered on longevity and sustainable progress.

At Birmingham Longevity Clinic, Drew leads comprehensive physical evaluations, including strength testing, VO2 max assessment, and injury risk screening. Based on these findings, he develops fully customized exercise programs tailored to each individual’s goals, current fitness level, movement patterns, and injury history. These plans are designed not only to improve performance, but to address limitations, manage or prevent injury, and provide a clear, structured path forward so clients can train with confidence and consistency.

Wilson Hand

Experience coordinator

Born and raised in Birmingham, Wilson Hand has always been driven by a desire to help others perform at their highest level—physically, mentally, and spiritually. After attending Brown University, where he played Division I lacrosse, he developed a deep appreciation for discipline, performance, and the long-term habits that drive health and resilience.

Through his personal experiences and time around the healthcare system, Wilson saw firsthand how often care becomes reactive rather than proactive—focused on treating disease instead of preventing it. That realization sparked a passion for a better approach, one centered on early detection, intentional living, and long-term vitality.

Today, Wilson is committed to helping individuals take ownership of their health through a more personalized and preventative model. He is equally focused on ensuring every patient has the highest level of experience—one defined by time, attention, and genuine partnership. His mission is simple: to provide the clarity, guidance, and support people need to stay ahead of disease and continue doing what they love for decades to come.
